This is the story about the red sweater...

...lost, and later recovered at the creek below the Booth Lake dam.

Algonquin - Kitty Lake trip - May 17-19, 2003....Sale Pantelic,  Milijan Kiki Lukic, Dragan Vojvodic, Srdjan i Milenko Jovicic, Srdjan Holovac, Ljupco Popovski, Ljupco Kozovski i ja...fishing, canoeing, hiking, relaxing...Heaven!

Built in 1935, this is one of our larger cabins. Materials were salvaged from both the abandoned Booth Depot Farm in close proximity and the adjacent Booth "End of Steel" lumber camp. Road access enabled rangers to easily bring in dressed lumber for the roof and floor. Few areas of Algonquin saw so much pioneering activity as this area. A logging depot farm, lumber camp, logging railway, fire tower, hose drying tower, towerman's cabin, a fire equipment storage house on the river and improvements for the spring river log drive are all evident within one mile of this cabin.

Despite its name, this waterfront cabin is actually situated on Farm Lake. The one room, open concept log cabin is nestled among mature White Pine and has a southerly
exposure with a very scenic view. Fishing opportunities include Smallmouth Bass, Pike, and Lake Trout in surrounding lakes such as Shall, Crotch, Farm, Kitty, Booth, and Bridle Lake. It can be easily accessed by canoeing one hour from Shall Lake access point #17.

05:00 am  depart Toronto
08:00 am  arrive Madawaska Algonquin Bound Outfitters Flies and mosquitos.
09:00 am  arrive Shell Lake access point, canoe pick-up. Packed, parked, left.
11:30 am  arrive Kitty Lake Cabin, took group pics along the way. Not too warm, not too cool. Perfect.
Srdjan H fell asleep on the grassy knoll in front of the cabin. Kiki and I paddled back to the car - forgotten 4 thermarests. Good excuse to paddle some more. Guys did very well, considering most didn't have any prior canoeing experience. Very  proud.
Dragan and Srdjan J fished. So did many people that paddled by. Nobody caught anything. Maybe tomorrow?
Had great bbq dinner, with Portobello mushrooms, potatos and gipsy steaks, Some French Cross Cabernet Merlot too. Hats off to friends at Peller Estates winery who pack it in 3L casks wrapped in cardboard box. Perfect for tripping! Everyone feeling rather wasted after a long day. Ready to hit the sack.

What happened that night, those of us who were fortunate enough to sleep in the tent across the bay, we'll never know for sure. Now, to merely suggest that some of our dear friends snore would be an understatement. More likely they roar! Some say that water in the Farm Lake lifted the waves a meter high that night, in the perfectly still sky, under the Moon and stars. The ripples caused by the snorrrrrring harmonics shook the poor Kitty Lake Cabin to the bone. Some say that huge bolts that hold the bunks together flew free in the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday, May 18

Our snorring friends were voted off the Island. Entries were made in the Trip Log. Plans were hatched about tonight. Srdjan H and myself placed a premium on 2 available tent spots. In truth, we were not really anxious to share our little oasis.

Breakfast ensued. Fire was lit to warm up the cheese pies. Anglers lemented the apparent ploy by fish - not to  bite anything. Not even show.

We packed lightly and headed for the Ryegrass - Godda - McCarthy Creek loop.
